A class bauble tree gives every student a part in decorating the room, and it makes a lovely end-of-year display for families to see. Here's how to run it in one or two sessions.
What you'll need
- A small tree, a branch in a pot, or a tree shape on your pinboard
- One bauble per student (see the options below)
- Decorating bits: felt shapes, pom poms, glue, markers
- Ribbon or string for hanging
Pick a bauble for your year level
- Early Years, Foundation / Pre-Primary: Cardboard Baubles (Pack of 30) are flat and easy to hold. Students glue on Large Felt Christmas Shapes (Pack of 200) and Pom Poms - Christmas (Pack of 300). Plenty of fine-motor practice, with no scissors needed.
- Year 1–2: Scratch Baubles - Pack of 30 let students scratch their own patterns. It's quick, and there's no mess.
- Year 3–6: Plastic Bauble - Clear: Pack of 10 can be filled with paper, sequins or a small note about a highlight of the year.
Step by step
- Show an example and talk about patterns, symmetry and colour.
- Give each student one bauble and a small tray of materials.
- Have students write their name on the back (or do it for younger students).
- Leave the baubles to dry flat, then add a ribbon loop.
- Hang them as a class. Each student can share one thing about their design.
Short on time?
The Bauble Design Studio Kit (20 Students) and the Christmas Tree Decoration Workshop Kit (30 Students) have materials for the whole class in one box, already portioned.
