Handmade cards are a Christmas classic for a reason. They combine art, writing and a bit of kindness, and families keep them for years. This lesson fits in an hour.
Set up
- Card bases: Pop-Up Reindeer Cards (Pack of 10) for an easy wow factor, or fold sheets of Christmas Kraft Paper - Pack of 40
- Decorations: EVA Christmas Adhesive Shapes Pack of 100 (self-adhesive, so there's no glue mess) and offcuts of Glitter Paper - Christmas (Pack of 40)
- Markers, pencils and scissors
Writing the message
- Early Years, Foundation / Pre-Primary: students trace "To" and "From" and draw a picture. Scribing is fine.
- Year 1–2: students write one sentence, e.g. "Thank you for…". Put a word bank on the board.
- Year 3–6: students write a short letter about a highlight of the year. It's a good chance to practise letter structure.
Gift tags as an extension
Fast finishers can make matching gift tags from the leftover paper. The Colour-Your-Own Christmas Cards & Gift Tags Book is ready to colour, cut and use, which is good for a quiet table or a wet-weather afternoon.
Celebrate the effort
Finish with a Christmas - Merit Stickers (Pack of 96) sticker on each card envelope.
A whole-class option
The Christmas Card & Gift Tag Kit (30 Students) has card, envelopes and decorations for 30 students in one order. It's handy if you're ordering for a whole year level.
