Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Teacher Superstore (ABN 99 142 863 134) collects, uses, holds and discloses your personal information, and how you can access it, correct it or make a complaint. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Teacher Superstore operates this website and our retail stores, with our principal place of business in Osborne Park, Western Australia. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Teacher Superstore.

Can you deal with us anonymously?

Where it is lawful and practical, you can deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym, for example when making a general enquiry. For most transactions, such as placing and delivering an order, we will need enough information to identify you and complete your request.

What information we collect

We collect personal information that we need to provide our products and services to you. Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:

  • Contact and identity details: your name, email address, phone number, and billing and delivery addresses.
  • Order and account details: the products you buy, your order history, your account login, and any wishlists or reviews you create.
  • Payment details: the information needed to take payment. Payments are processed securely by our payment providers, and we do not store full card numbers on our systems.
  • School and organisation details: for school orders, the school or organisation name and purchase order details.
  • Communications: the messages, enquiries, reviews and feedback you send us.
  • CCTV footage: if you visit or pass by one of our stores, you may be recorded by security cameras that monitor our premises and surrounding areas, such as entrances and car parks, for safety and security.
  • Technical and usage information: your IP address, device and browser type, and how you use our website, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies and analytics” below).

We generally do not collect sensitive information (such as health information). If we ever need to, we will ask for your consent first, unless the law requires or permits otherwise.

How we collect it

We collect personal information in three main ways: directly from you when you order, create an account, contact us or sign up to our newsletter; automatically as you use our website; and occasionally from third parties such as our payment and delivery providers, or social media platforms if you choose to interact with us there.

How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • process, deliver and manage your orders, including school orders and accounts;
  • provide customer service and respond to your enquiries;
  • send you news, offers and updates where you have asked to hear from us;
  • improve our website, products and service; and
  • detect and prevent fraud and meet our legal and tax obligations.

Our loyalty program

If you join our loyalty or rewards program, we collect and use some additional information to run it. This includes your membership details, your points or rewards balance, and a record of your purchases so we can apply points, offers and benefits. We use this information to operate the program, personalise the rewards and offers we show you, and keep you up to date with program news. You can leave the program at any time by contacting us. Where we use service providers to help run the program, we require them to protect your information in line with this policy.

Marketing and your choices

We will only send you marketing communications where you have opted in or where we are otherwise permitted to. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us. We will action your request promptly.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where needed to run our business, with:

  • Service providers who act on our behalf, such as our e-commerce platform (Shopify), payment providers (for example PayPal and our card, Afterpay and Zip processors), delivery couriers, and our email, marketing and analytics providers.
  • Authorities or other parties where we are required or permitted by law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our customers, our people or the public.

We require our service providers to protect your information and to use it only for the purposes we engage them for.

Do we send information overseas?

Some of our service providers, including our e-commerce platform and certain technology providers, store or process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we disclose your information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart and login working, remember your preferences, understand how the site is used, and measure and improve performance. We also use analytics and advertising tools (which may include Google, Microsoft, Meta and LinkedIn) to help us improve the site and show relevant content. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of personalised advertising through the relevant platforms or at youronlinechoices.com.au. Some parts of the site may not work as well if cookies are disabled.

How we keep it secure

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access. No transmission of information over the internet is completely secure, so any information you provide is sent at your own risk. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will respond in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where required.

How long we keep it

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or for as long as the law requires (for example, to meet tax and record-keeping obligations). When it is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to securely destroy or de-identify it.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate or out of date. Please contact us using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days. There is generally no charge to make a request.

Children's privacy

Our store is intended for use by adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Students under 18 should shop with the involvement of a parent, teacher or guardian.
