Science in the Garden is part of a series of two books which encourage children to explore and engage with the living laboratory that exists on their doorstep.
Children are prompted to step into the garden and observe, collect and record information about living and non-living things. This will help them to develop their scientific thinking, skills and processes and draw them into the spirit and beauty of science. Your students will begin to see the garden as an important resource which can help them to learn about the different parts of plants, trees, animals and insects, their adaptations and their connections.
If the garden is not physically accessible, all of the lessons can still be completed. Some of the curriculum linked activities include: drawing a scientific sketch of a diving beetle, framing scientific questions to identify features of a legless lizard, making a plant container and setting up an experiment to deduce how a plant breathes. Answers for the teacher are provided at the back of the book.
