Mastery Learning Folders

Mastery Learning Folders enable teachers and parents to manage the practise of classroom learning content, using the evidence-informed strategies of mastery learning and spaced retrieval. The folders are particularly relevant to the practise of foundational knowledge and skills such as phonics, sight words, spelling and maths facts and strategies. They are supported by a free flashcard club which contains foundational learning content arranged according to the curriculum. Complementary on-going PD is provided with all school orders.

Examples - Language

• A Year 3 teacher may have identified that a student struggling with reading, does not have fluency with phonics alternative sounds. She uses her assessments to provide that student with learning content to cover the unknown sounds.
• A Year 1 teacher has one student who is already reading at the start of the year and the phonics homework program is inappropriate for his needs. His Mastery Learning Folder homework becomes extension vocabulary sight words based on the class theme.
• Parents can use the Mastery Learning Folder with flashcards provided by their child’s teacher. Children can see their progress through the clear pockets and are motivated by moving the flashcards through the folder. Working with their parent, they get immediate feedback and know which content needs more time and which content they have mastered. The test first and then learn process is very quick and flashcards are organised and secure.
• Homeschooler parents can identify the Australian Curriculum content that they are covering with their children and pre and post test appropriate content using flashcards from the free Flashcard Club on the Mastery Learning Group website. Parents are invited to contact Mastery Learning Group for help or advice if needed.
