Basic Skills Introductory Comprehension as the name suggests, introduces children to simple concepts in reading comprehension. The book is in a structured and graded format so it can be easily corrected. At the beginning the type face is large, and changes to a size smaller for the remainder of the book.
The book parallels First Phonic Reading (Item 113) and should be mastered before attempted First Comprehension (Item 88) and Reading/Comprehension Level 1 (Item 57).

The original Basic Skills series was created by Peter Howard as an aid to 'in home' learning. There are over 100 books for children aged from 4 to 15. Each book covers a specific 'basic skill' or set of skills enabling students to 'aim for excellence'.
