Basic Skills 'Preschool Activities 2' provides exercises to improve fine motor skills through colouring pictures. 

Care should be taken to keep within the outlines.

At the same time, visual discrimination skills are improved, which are important at the pre-reading stages. 

This book leads up to and includes the recognition of letters, including capitals,  and the single sounds associated with them. 

Tracing and completing simple words is introduced in the last eight pages. 

A teacher of parent will need to read the instructions at the bottom of each page and check each completed task before the child attempts the next. 

Errors should be pointed out, but praise for work done is essential if the child is to gain confidence. 

Children will acquire valuable language and communication skills by discussing each page with the parent or teacher before commencing the activity.
