Part of the series Mastery Learning Folders.
Mastery Learning Folders can be used by classroom teachers to address the special needs of a small number of students, for remediation, consolidation or extension across subject areas. The one-on-one mastery learning process can be facilitated by parents (as homework), education assistants with small groups or older peer tutors.
Examples - Language
- A Year 3 teacher may have identified that a student struggling with reading, does not have fluency with phonics alternative sounds. She uses her assessments to provide that student with learning content to cover the unknown sounds.
- A Year 1 teacher has one student who is already reading at the start of the year and the phonics homework program is inappropriate for his needs. His Mastery Learning Folder homework becomes extension vocabulary sight words based on the class theme.
- Parents can use the Mastery Learning Folder with flashcards provided by their child’s teacher. Children can see their progress through the clear pockets and are motivated by moving the flashcards through the folder. Working with their parent, they get immediate feedback and know which content needs more time and which content they have mastered. The test first and then learn process is very quick and flashcards are organised and secure.
- Homeschooler parents can identify the Australian Curriculum content that they are covering with their children and pre and post test appropriate content using flashcards from the free Flashcard Club on the Mastery Learning Group website. Parents are invited to contact Mastery Learning Group for help or advice if needed.
