Part of the series Zometool STEAM Education.
A little over 30 years ago, the experiments that would lead to the discovery of the C60 molecule (also known as Fullerene or Buckyball) began in earnest. It was first observed on September 2nd, 1984.
Twenty-five years after their discovery, fullerenes provide abundant research opportunities in pure chemistry, materials science, pharmaceutical chemistry, and nanotechnology.
With this kit you can choose between building the (super cool) all-black version, the “anatomically correct” version (with double bonds indicated with white struts) or the icosahedron version which shows clearly why the C60 is shaped like a truncated icosahedron.
