Part of the series Start Cooking!.
All home economics classes begin with two ideas: every student can cook, every student should cook. Start Cooking puts them into action.
Start Cooking is a resource for students learning to cook, practising cooking skills, and developing basic expertise as the activities see them applying these skills to various exciting and contemporary recipes.
Written and developed by experienced teachers it will assist students of all abilities to acquire good work practices and master cooking techniques, and will equip them with skills for life.
It is divided into three sections:
• Nutrition, equipment and food safety – Introducing the basic requirements of working in the kitchen and preparing healthy food
• Super skills – Introducing the key skills required for cooking. Each Super skill is linked to the recipes in which it is practised
• Recipes – Allowing students to practice the Super Skills while creating exciting foods.
Start Cooking's practical and accessible recipes allows students to develop an appreciation of healthy food and take steps towards being independent in the kitchen.
