The child is also introduced to sight words - the Dolch List. \nThe Dolch List of 220 words, are words that occur so often in our \nreading, that children need to be able to recognise them instantly, as \nsight words (even though some can be sounded out). Knowing these words \nhelps children to develop fluency when reading. Flash cards should be \nmade for the words from \u003cem\u003eMy First Wall of Words\u003c\/em\u003e when the left-hand page is completed. Flash cards should be made for the words from \u003cem\u003eMy Second Wall of Words\u003c\/em\u003e after the right-hand page is completed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTeacher\nnotes on each left hand page list words for an auditory discrimination \nactivity. The Dolch words for flash cards are given at the bottom of \nsome pages.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChildren's activities are given in handwriting font. \nThe left hand page introduces the letter. The child should be taught its\nsound and name. Each grey letter should be traced over many times, each\ntime in a different colour. This creates a rainbow effect. The \nleft-hand page should be completed on the first lesson with each letter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe\nright-hand pages should not be done at this time, as all the letters of\nthe alphabet need to be known before the child can complete them, \nwithout either becoming frustrated, or the teacher having to help too \nmuch. The right-hand pages may be read through with the teacher on the \nfirst day of meeting the featured letter, but leave the pencil work \nuntil after all the letters of the alphabet have been treated.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach\npage should be read aloud by the child after the pencil work has been \ncompleted.
